The local newsgroup strath.cs.ugrad.cad should be checked out on a regular basis too. Feel free to post questions to that newsgroup or e-mail me.
For example, here are two relevant postings that I made after the first lecture:

You never know it could be the first hint that you're (not) at risk B-{.

Subject: Students at risk From: Duncan Smeed <duncan@cs.strath.ac.uk> Date: Fri, 3 Oct 1997 15:00:51 +0100 Organization: Computer Science, Strathclyde University X-Newsreader: MacSOUP 2.2 Relax, no-one is on my 'at risk' list yet ;-) However, I did mention at the first lecture that past experience hows a _very strong_ correlation between students identified 'at risk' in a class and their ultimate failure of the class either due to outstanding (in the 'not submitted' sense of the word as opposed to 'of an extremely high standard' meaning ;-)) coursework and/or repeated failure/absence at the exam. Happily a number of students did demonstrate an ability to buck the trend and did manage to get off the list. So it is possible. Any student that finds they're having difficulty with any class/problem - not just mine - should make sure that their lectures/tutors/counsellors know ASAP. Contrary to popular belef I am quite approachable ;-). Duncan
