My main research interests are in the areas of statistical modelling, epi-informatics, knowledge discovery, and information access and retrieval; with particular focus on aspects such as data-mining of large databases, content-based indexing, and the integration of user context in information retrieval and management systems.

Recently I have become interested in the problem of literature-based discovery; how online systems can help support the discovery of fertile, unintended logical connections between distinct literature. In particular how probabilistic topic models can identify implicit connections between two sets of disjoint literature.
